Options for Handling Your Citation

Please be advised all court ordered fines, fees, and penalties must be paid in full on the day of court.  This includes defensive driving, deferral, and dismissal fees.  Failure to pay on the day of court may result in a warrant for your arrest.

Important Notice:  No Extensions are Granted


You may pay the fine by check, cash, credit card, or money order payable to the City of Garland.

If you are paying online or by telephone, you may use Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit cards.


Option#1:  Plead No Contest or Guilty and pay the fine.

1.  In Person: You may appear at the Municipal Court
     Building at 1791 W. Avenue B between 8:00 a.m. and
     5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

2.  By Mail: All fine amounts are subject to change without
     notice. Payment on all citations are due in 12 days. 
     After 12 days, an additional administrative fee will be
     added. Call 972-205-2330 to confirm your fine amount if
     you plan to pay by mail.  Check the appropriate plea on
     the reverse side of your citation along with your check or
     money order for full payment, and a copy of a valid photo ID to: 
         
                             City of Garland 
                             Municipal Court 
                             1791 W Avenue B 
                             Garland, TX 75042
 
3.  Drop Box: You may drop a payment in the night drop
     box located to the right of the Court building entrance and is
     available 24 hours a day. 
 
4.  Request Driver Safety Course on moving traffic
     violations only, within 12 days of receiving the citation,
     with a valid Texas Driver's License, proof of insurance,  
     and pay an administrative fee.  You can not take this
     course if you have taken it within the last year to clear a
     ticket or if you have a commercial license. 
 
5.  Driver Safety Course
 
     If you have not participated in a driver safety course to
     satisfy a moving violation within the preceding
     twelve (12) months, you  may request this option by
     mail by submitting the following two documents within
     12 days of receiving the citation: 

     1.  Photocopy of a Valid Texas Driver's License
     2.  Photocopy of Current Financial Responsibility
          (Insurance)

     If a person has exceeded the posted speed limit by 25
     or more miles, they will not be eligible to request this
     program without judicial authorization; therefore, a court
     date must be requested for consideration into this
     program.

Or, bring your documentation "in person" to 1791 W. Avenue B, Garland, TX 75042.
 
After receipt and acceptance of the documentation, a packet of instructions will be provided with instructions for completion of this program. 


Option #2:  Plead Not Guilty and request a pre-trial hearing. (You must complete a contact information card with your current information before a court date may be set.)
  
  Request a court date within 12 calendar days of 
  receiving a citation so as to plead not guilty and
  request a trial.

                 
1.  In Person: You may appear at the Municipal Court
     Building at 1791 W. Avenue B between 8:00 a.m. and
     5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. 
 
2.  By Mail: Check the appropriate plea on the reverse side
     of your copy of the citation.  The court's office will mail
     you a pre-trial date.  Mail your citation to:
